GIGANTIC ANNUAL EASTER EGG HUNT , thousands of brightly coloured eggs hidden in Thoiry's Bluebell Wood for family fun .
EASTER IS A SPECIAL DAY FOR CHILDREN WITH THOIRY'S ANNUAL EASTER EGG HUNT.
On Easter Sunday morning, as soon as the gates open at 10 a.m., the Chateau de Thoiry's young visitors run joyfully towards the formal French parterres and the woodland gardens, where thousands of brightly colored eggs and chocolate rabbits are waiting to be discovered in the prairies and hidden in the flowering shrubs.
Annabelle and Paul de La Panouse decided, nearly 30 years ago, to share with their visitors, the pleasure of their annual Easter Egg Hunt which originally was held only for their children, Colomba et Edmond.
10.000 colored hard-boiled eggs and hundreds of chocolate rabbits are hidden for the children's delight. Each child will receive a welcome gift of a small chocolat egg; the perfect stimulant for an ardent Easter Egg hunter!
Annabelle and Paul de La Panouse have each their own version about the origin of Easter :
- Annabelle, believes in the anglo-saxon legend which says that the eggs are hidden by rabbits.
- Paul, following the latin version, affirms that the eggs fall from Easter bells ringing in Rome. Annabelle has won in the end, because she runs the gardens. That's why there are chocolate rabbits, and not bells, hidden in the rhododendrons. In the afternoon, children will be invited to help the animal keeper's feed Easter eggs specially adapted to each species: frozen fruit juice eggs to the lemurians , vegetable eggs to the goats and the lamas , meaty eggs for the lions and the tigers, hard-boiled eggs for the otters, ....
